Who we are
BlueLeza is a technical development agency developing and marketing sensors in the health, sports and fitness arena.
The product and performance portfolio comprises sensors and apps for the capture of movement, pulse rate and other biometric data. Currently this finds substance in the pulse rate sensor HRM Blue, an ultra-light Bluetooth Smart / ANT+ cardio sensor weighing only 14 g in total. It is not only dustproof, but waterproof up to a depth of 1.5 m, so that it can also be used for water sports like rowing, kite-surfing or stand up paddling. The HRM Blue is available in combination with a heart rate belt or a sports bra.
Of all the fitness Apps using the open software standard Bluetooth Smart or ANT+ for communication with sensors, three Smartphone platforms, Apple iOS, Android 4.3 and Blackberry 10, currently support the HRM Blue. This product has also been voted as ISPO Brandnew Finalist 2014/15 and has been awarded with the Plus X Award 2015 for High Quality and Ease of Use.
How we started
We are avid amateur athletes (running, walking, mountain biking, etc.) and were searching for a product that had the ability to measure and improve our training in a user-friendly way. But the products that were available on the market didn’t satisfy our needs. As we are both working in the IT-Industry and having a strong affinity to technology, we decided to develop our own products influenced by our sporting experience.
When we did our first step in that direction in the second quarter in 2012 our IT colleagues wished us good luck (we both work full time in international functions within a very large IT company). They meant that we are a little crazy to try to battle us with established sport companies running our business in part time.
Why did they think like this? Because we had the aspiration that our product quality must be as good as or better than the quality of established brands and in addition we wanted to use a new technology nearly not known on the market at that time. Also we had bullets like high functionality (e.g. usage of open standards), good design, easy usability, high user-friendliness and sustainability (usage of regional resources where possible) on our list that didn’t make them think we can do it.
Nevertheless of the problematic start we believed in our idea and were absolutely happy, when the Bluetooth Special Interest Group invited us end of February 2013 to Munich to present our first product.
Shortly after we arrived at the event our pleasant anticipation switched to disenchantment. As a small start-up we were able to present our product but between established companies and their marketing machinery we felt out of place. Especially when an established brand (at that time without any Bluetooth 4.0 product) told us „Nobody will need that. None professional runner will use his smartphone during running“, we asked ourselves if our product was really a good idea and an international full time IT job isn´t hard enough.
But after many of you gave our product a chance and also a few months later some established sport companies brought products with similar technology on the market, we knew we were on the right track. Still our market start as an unknown brand with a new technology was not easy. We nearly don’t invest money in marketing campaigns as we try to invest all the money from our sales into product enhancement or new products.
Why can’t I buy more BlueLeza products?
As a start-up we need to consider very carefully in which new product development we can invest our money on one hand and on the other hand we test our products minimum 3-6 months on our own before we bring them on the market. Because of the second step it can happen that a product is still in prototype stadium when we are not completely convinced.
We are pleased for the confidence shown to us by you. We hope you are happy with our HRM Blue and tell many of your friends about it. Only through your word-of-mouth advertisement we are able to develop new products and enhance our existing products.
